What a kit is
A kit is a pre-designed set delivered in boxes with a fixed layout and instructions. Kits can be good, with solid lumber and well-thought-out features, and many come in a range of sizes and styles.
They are often the most budget-friendly route and can be installed by a family or a crew.
What custom means
A custom set is designed around your yard and kids. It may use lumber cut to your specification, a unique layout, extra features and details that match your home.
It is built on site and often includes site work and surfacing in the plan.
Where kits shine
Kits suit standard yards, standard needs and tight timelines. They are easy to compare, available quickly and can be extended with accessories from the same maker.
If your yard is flat and open and your needs are simple, a kit may be all you need.
Where custom shines
Sloped lots, odd shapes, tight clearances, trees, special features and a desire for something unique favor custom. A custom set can be planned to expand and tuned to your family.
Custom also lets you choose materials, beam size, roof shape and finishes.
Hybrid options
Many families begin with a quality kit and have it professionally installed with extra site work. Others commission a custom frame and add manufacturer accessories. We help you mix and match so you get the best of both.
The best choice depends on your priorities: speed, price, fit, uniqueness or flexibility.
How to decide in ten minutes
Ask three questions. Is my yard flat, open and ordinary? Are my needs standard, such as two swings, one slide and a small fort? Do I need it quickly? Three yeses point to a kit. Any no points toward custom or a hybrid.
If you are unsure, ask for a site visit before you buy anything. A good plan costs nothing to look at.
Quality is not the same as custom
There are excellent kits and poor custom builds. Judge each by the lumber, the hardware, the joinery and the plan for the surface, not by the label. Ask to see photos of finished work and the specific parts used.
The best result is the one built well, installed correctly and checked afterward.
Quick answers
Is custom always more expensive?
Not always, but it often takes more design time. Scope and materials decide the cost, and we explain options in an estimate.
Can you install a kit I already bought?
