The rocket ship tower
A tower with a pointed roof, round portholes, a steering wheel and a silver slide makes a convincing launch. Paint it in bright colors and add a number and flag.
A ladder and a rock wall can serve as boarding routes.
Planets and moons
A dome climber painted like a planet, a crescent-shaped swing or bench and stepping stones as moons turn the surface into a solar system. Rings can be rope or painted lines.
Place them so kids can hop from planet to planet.
Star lights
Solar string lights, lantern stars and small LED path lights glow at dusk. Position them out of the way so they do not create hazards, and use outdoor-rated products.
A dark corner makes a great stargazing spot.
Mission props
A control panel with switches and dials, a telescope, a radio and a mission flag add pretend play. Kids can plan missions, countdown and blast off.
Props can be changed as interests change.
Safe space
Keep decks and railings sized for the ages. Add a soft surface and keep star lights and props from becoming trip hazards. Supervise little astronauts.
We can build the theme into the structure so it stays safe.
Details that glow
Glow-in-the-dark paint on star shapes, solar lights along the path, a little observation deck with a telescope and a countdown sign by the slide make the theme come alive.
Keep decorations safe, secure and out of the way of play.
Beyond the structure
Add a fire pit circle for stargazing with the family, a planetary garden with colorful plants and a chalkboard for drawing constellations. Space themes work all around the yard.
Imagination does the rest.
Quick answers
Can you build a rocket ship playset?
