Choose the spot
Pick a spot with room for the set and its use zone, a view from the house and some shade if possible. Avoid low areas where water collects and keep clear of fences, trees and wires.
Mark the footprint with spray paint.
Call before you dig
Contact your local utility locating service before any digging. Underground lines for gas, electric, water and communications are common in yards.
This is free in many areas and often required by law.
Clear the area
Move furniture, toys, pots and hoses. Remove rocks and large roots from the footprint. Trim low branches over the area.
Make sure a path is clear for a crew and materials.
Think about water
Walk the yard after rain to see how water moves. A set on a low spot will sit in puddles. Plan a slope or drain if needed.
Place the surface and border to shed water.
Talk to the neighborhood
Check HOA rules and any permits. Let neighbors know about the work. Think about pets and kids during construction.
Our crew will explain what they need from you.
A pre-visit checklist
Photograph the yard from several angles. Measure the width and depth and note the location of fences, trees, the house, a deck, a pool, hoses and the gate. Mark anything underground that you know about.
Bring these to your estimate to speed up planning.
Prepare the neighborhood
If the work will block a driveway or create noise, tell your neighbors ahead of time. A friendly note can prevent complaints.
If you have an HOA, send the plan for approval early.
Quick answers
Do I need to level the whole yard?
No, only the play area and the zone around it.
Can I install over grass?
Grass can stay outside the play area, but the surfaced zone under and around the set replaces it.
